Course Validation Workshop: Climate Change, Climate Data Analysis and Application

The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) conducted a Course Validation Workshop on 28th September 2026 for the newly developed course, β€œClimate Change, Climate Data Analysis and Application”, under the MSc. Natural Resources Management (NRMI312) program at the Graduate School of Science and Technology, Mid-West University (MU). The course has been developed under the CLASSIK Project, supported by IHE Delft, The Netherlands.

The workshop brought together experts from diverse organizations including government, academia and development sectors to review and provide feedback on the course content and structure. The workshop started with welcome and opening remarks by Dr. Anusuya Joshi, President, SEN and Dr. Dipak Raj Acharya, Dean, Graduate School of Science and Technology, MU. Ms. Suchita Shrestha, Project Lead, CLASSIK, presented about the project background and the course development process, which and built upon two Climate Data Analysis Trainings in Kathmandu and Surkhet in 2025.

The program further engaged participants in groups to review the course structure and recommend improvements. Key suggestions included strengthening theoretical foundations, increasing assignments and practical applications, ensuring international relevance, and enhancing future career and research opportunities for students.

Group Discussion

Dr. Shreedhar Maskey, Associate Professor of Hydrology & Water Resources, IHE Delft highlighted the growing importance of climate data analysis skills in the current world scenario and the course’s relevance in preparing students to work with complex climate datasets.

The workshop concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Dhiraj Pradhananga, UNESCO Chair in Mountain Cryosphere and Water, Founder President, SEN, who emphasized the need to sustain and strengthen climate science education. The course is expected to equip students, researchers, and professionals with the knowledge and practical skills required to address emerging climate challenges and support evidence-based decision-making.
