As part of the BAGAR (Building Agroforestry-based Adaptation Plans for Resilient Floodplains) project, being implemented by The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) in partnership with Heifer International Nepal and Forest Action Nepal, SEN conducted a ward-level engagement and consultation program with EbA forums at Marin Rural Municipality, Sindhuli (Wards 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 ) and Gadhimai Municipality, Rautahat (Ward 1,2,3,5 & 6) from 11-14 May 2026, to disseminate Hydrological Model plans and Land Use plan of floodplains, and their outcome results prepared under the project.
The Hydrological Models provided 1, 10, and 30 year flood risk projections and floodplain dynamics, helping identify high-risk areas, vulnerable settlements, agricultural lands, and critical infrastructures. Similarly, the floodplain Land Use plans outlined strategies for integrated floodplain management through Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) approaches, including agroforestry promotion, riverbank stabilization, floodplain restoration, wetland utilization, and resilient agricultural practices.
The dissemination program served as an important platform for knowledge sharing with local communities and governments, while also encouraging dialogue on sustainable floodplain management through ecosystem-based adaptation approaches and climate resilience planning.
