Background

The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) established in March 2001 to promote sustainable lifestyles and to reduce the global footprint of Nepal.

SEN’s core mission is to focus on conservation activities, such as campaigning against the over exploitation of earth’s limited resources and in engaging the public through programs that teach individuals of all ages and background on how to minimize their impacts on those natural resources. Such activities are intended to motivate individuals and organizations, academic institutes, private business and government agencies to pursue sustainable development and system-resilient choices in their day to day workings. SEN is committed to achieve a balance in human-environment interactions through original researches that enhance the knowledge framework that provides the reference to both policy and advocacy process and through diffused activities that affect changes in the everyday lives of individuals regardless of background.

SEN mission is to direct its activities towards:
• Promoting sustainable lifestyles
• Encouraging climate resilient livelihoods
• Supporting capacity building
• Motivating individuals to make more earth-friendly choices

SEN deploys a multi-dimensional and comprehensive approach in its advocacy not only in developing far-reaching programs in Nepal but also collaborating with organizations and researchers from around the region and across the world to fulfil its vision of sustainable human-environment interactions.
At present, SEN’s programs are divided into four general categories: research, publication, capacity building and awareness.

SEN Priorities:
• Climate Change (Mitigation and Adaptation)
• Water, Weather and Climate Information
• Natural Resource Management
• Conservation Education
• Weather, Water and Climate Induced Disaster Management
• Sustainable Agriculture
• Sustainable Lifestyles
• Waste Management
• Renewable Energy And Appropriate Technology
• Education
• Health
