The Small Earth Nepal with the support of WWF Nepal organized a workshop entitled Green Economy: National Youth Perspective on June 5, 2012 to commemorate the World Environment Day. The workshop was held with some key objectives such as challenges and opportunities of Green Economy in the context of Nepal, sharing of Nepal’s status on Green Economy and its preparation for the Rio+20 summit.
Mr. Krishna Gyanwali, Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, attended the program as the chief guest. Other dignitaries present in the workshop were Prof. Suresh Raj Chalise, Former Dean, Tribhuvan University, Dr. Madan Lall Shrestha, Academician, NAST, Mr. Purushottam Ghimire, Joint Secretary, National Planning Commission and Mr. Tek Jung Mahat from ICIMOD.
In the opening session, Mr. Sudarshan Rajbhandari from SEN gave his welcome speech which was followed by the speech of Prof. Chalise. Mr. Gyanwali delivered his speech on Nepal’s potential on Green Economy.
In the technical session Mr. Ghimire, Mr. Mahat, Mr. Jeeban Panthi and Ms. Laure McAndrew from SEN had their presentations which were largely focused on broad objectives of the workshop. Later, many queries were answered by the presenters. Dr. Shrestha moderated the session.
About 40 youth representing different backgrounds and journalists attended the program.
