In support of the Clean Up South Asia campaign, The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) launched a hands-on waste-tracking experiment at Delight School, Lalitpur to foster sustainable waste practices among students. With South Asian countries engaging in coordinated clean-up efforts from November 4 to 10, this year’s campaign includes various activities extending throughout the month to promote environmental responsibility.
The waste-tracking experiment by SEN involved over 40 students from Delight School in grades 6, 7, and 9, who will participate in a structured, four-day waste-tracking activity, recording and categorizing their household waste into organic and inorganic materials. Each day, students will log the weight of waste collected, while noting observations, challenges, and insights related to waste management practices in a given format.
On November 5, a team from SEN visited Delight School and launched the program and provided students with an orientation session. The team guided students through the waste-tracking process, explaining waste types, segregation methods, and weighing procedures, building excitement among the young participants. Following data collection, SEN plans a follow-up session to teach students about recycling, reusing, and upcycling, while addressing inefficiencies in Nepal’s waste management system.
By expanding this experiment to other schools throughout November, SEN aims to instill a lasting commitment to sustainability among Nepal’s youth, empowering them to make meaningful changes in their communities.
