As part of Nepal National Glacier, Water and Weather Week (NNGWWW) 2025, a National Symposium on Cryosphere was organized on the occasion of World Day for Glaciers on the 21st March at Kathmandu, Nepal.
The symposium was organized jointly in collaboration with Cryosphere Society Nepal (CSN), ICIMOD, Karnali Integrated Rural Development and Research Centre (KIRDARC), Kathmandu University (KU), Nepal Development Research Institute (NDRI), Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), The Small Earth Nepal (SEN), Society of Hydrologists and Meteorologists (SOHAM-Nepal), Tribhuvan University (TU), UNESCO, WaterAid, Youth Alliance for Environment (YAE), and attended by 125 participants.
One of the highlights of the day was the launch of the UN World Water Development Report (WWDR) 2025 along with Nepali version of its Executive Summary and Facts and Figures.
Dr. Dhiraj Pradhananga (Associate Professor at TU, President of SEN & Chairholder of the UNESCO Chair Mountain Water Sustainability), Mr. Bhawani S. Dongol (Executive Director, SEN), Ms. Sijal Pokharel (Natural Science Officer, UNESCO, Kathmandu), Ms. Prakriti Gurung (Natural Science Officer, UNESCO, Kathmandu) and Mr. Gobinda Bahadur Shahi (Executive Director, KIRDARC) officially launched the Report. Dr. Pradhananga presented the highlights and key information of the WWDR report.
The inaugural session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Achyut Prasad Wagle, Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University, along with Chief Guest, Hon’ble Minister Mr. Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, Ministry for the Forest and Environment.
