The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) in collaboration with GeoDev, OSGeo Nepal, UNESCO World Water Assessment Programme and UNESCO Chair in Mountain Water Sustainability, organized hands-on online training on Google Earth Engine (GEE) on 17th, 19th and 22nd March 2025 as part of the Nepal National Glacier, Water and Weather Week (NNGWWW) 2025. The training brought together 35 participants from 25 countries, including hydrologists, glaciologists, water resource professionals, and graduate students.
Aligning with the International Year of Glacier Preservation (IYGP) 2025, the training highlighted the importance of leveraging satellite data for glacier monitoring and snow-cover analysis. The training was facilitated by Geospatial Expert Mr. Tek Kshetri (Founder, OSGeo Nepal). The training combined theoretical insights with practical applications by generating time-lapse images, tracking snow cover trends, and developing geospatial models using GEE. A key highlight of the training was a dedicated session where participants presented small projects, showcasing their own applications of GEE in water resource and snow monitoring. They prepared various analytical codes and visualizations, demonstrating their ability to process and interpret Earth observation data.
By fostering collaboration and advancing technical skills, the event contributed to the goals of International Year of Glacier Preservation (IYGP) 2025, reinforcing the role of geospatial technologies in observing and analyzing snow and ice.
