An online Training of Trainers (ToT) on the use of NASA’s Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) satellite data was conducted by The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) on 7 January 2026, as a pre-week activity for the Nepal National Glacier, Water, and Weather Week (NNGWWW) 2026. A total of 10 participants from SEN took part in the training.
The session was delivered by Ms. Carly Koppe from Saint Louis University. Ms. Koppe introduced the fundamentals of SWOT data and its applications for rivers and lakes. The training highlighted how SWOT provides crucial information on water surface height, discharge, and how these change over-time, helping researchers better understand floods, lake storage, and river dynamics.
Participants learned the basic steps to access, download, and start working with SWOT data products for their own research projects. The ToT trained the participants who will be serving as trainers during the SWOT training program during NNGWWW 2026 in March 2026.
