The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) organized a three-day-visit to Bungal, Pipalkot Village Development Committee of Bajhang district, Western Nepal in August 2012, accepting the invitation of local youth group. Mr. Sudarshan Rajbhandari, Vice President and Ms. Pallavi Pandey, Program Assistant of SEN, and with two local volunteers visited six schools of the VDC where they conducted an awareness campaign promoting education for sustainable environment. During the visit, they handed over about 2000 books which they had collected from different sources including Ideal Model Schools, Shuvatara School and Room to Read, to the community schools of the VDC. The books, which were mostly text books, reference books and students’ magazines, were believed to be an additional sources for the school children. The distribution of the books helped initiate the libraries in some schools whereas other school had them added in their already existing libraries. The aim of the project is to initiate libraries in the community schools and also to aware students about various environmental issues, sensitizing them and making them knowledgeable about the present situation of the environment as well and their roles to conserve the nature.
The team also made an observation visit to the schools to understand about the present situation of those community schools and also held separate meetings with the school principals and discussed about possible collaboration to improve education system in the schools of that VDC.
