The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) conducted a stakeholder consultation workshop at Varagung Muktichhetra Rural Municipality, Mustang on 4 September 2025 under the project “Enhancing Climate Resilience in South Asia and China: Predicting Precipitation Shifts and Their Impacts for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resource Security” supported by Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN). The workshop shared the project and its objectives, and preliminary results of climate data analysis to the stakeholders and discussed climate impacts at the local level and potential adaptation strategies to minimize the disaster risks and resource security.
The workshop brought together 25 participants, including the Rural Municipality’s Chairperson, Mr. Rinjin Namgel Gurung, community people, and government officers. Dr. Dhiraj Pradhananga introduced the project to the participants. The group discussion was followed into three groups: government officials, community people, and political leaders. The discussions centered on climate change adaptation strategies, recommendations for policies and disaster risk reduction.
Participants were concerned about practicing indigenous methods in mitigating the climate change impacts. They emphasized the need for climate change awareness programs among the local people and the urgency to formulate and implement climate adaptation plans and policies.
The workshop successfully engaged local stakeholders, significantly increasing their understanding of climate change impacts and their role in creating a more resilient community by implementing potential adaptation solutions.
