The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) had a meeting with Prof. Dr. Dhruba Kumar Gautam, Vice Chancellor and Associate Prof. Dr. Rajan Suwal, Dean of the Graduate School of Engineering/Science and Technology of Mid-West University (MWU) on 6 June 2025 at MWU, Surkhet. This meeting discussed the potential opportunities between SEN and MWU in strengthening collaboration in academic research and developing local capacity in the Karnali region.

The meeting was in connection with a four-day Climate Data Analysis training, a first-of-its kind training in the Karnali region, conducted in collaboration with MWU in Surkhet from 5-8 June 2025. The training equipped 29 participants (F:9, M:20), including graduate students, early-career researchers, and practitioners from the Karnali region, with the technical skills in climate data analysis. The training was part of the project “Promoting CLimAte ReSilient and Socially Inclusive Water Management in the Lower Karnali Watershed Region, Nepal (CLASSIK)”, supported by Water and Development Partnership Programme, IHE Delft, The Netherlands.

The meeting strengthened ties between SEN and MWU, with a mutual understanding to explore further collaborative initiatives, marking a promising step towards regional partnership for academic development in the field of climate change, water resources and environmental management. Key mutual interest areas include conducting research projects, capacity building programs and knowledge exchange initiatives in Karnali region.
