Meeting with Prof. Linfeng FAN from the Chinese Academy of Sciences

Prof. Linfeng FAN from the Institute of Mountain Hazards Environment (IMHE)Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) visited The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) on 3 December 2025 to explore potential collaborations in the field of Cryosphere Science.

During the visit, Prof. FAN presented the research findings from IMHE’s 4 major research units: 1. Mountain Hazard, 2. Mountain Environment, 3. Mountain Sustainable Development and 4. Digital Mountain. He highlighted IMHE’s work on mountain hazard assessment and mitigation technology systems. He also shared insights from the field observations conducted at research stations across the mountain alpine ecosystems.

Dr. Dhiraj Pradhananga introduced the The Asian Monsoon Climate Change Adaptation Network (AMCLAN), a regional initiative in which SEN is a part of; and extended an invitation to IMHE to join this network to strengthen scientific collaboration across Asia. He also suggested him to support and engage with the International Year of Glacier Preservations (IYGP2025) and the UN Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences (2025-2034).

SEN looks forward to working together with IMHE under programs aligned with the UN Decade of Action on Cryosphere Sciences and the other potential networks, including the International Network for Alpine Research Catchment Hydrology (INARCH), the UNESCO Chair in Mountain Water Sustainability and the IAHS-ICSIH fostering collaborative research, knowledge exchange and regional scientific advancement.
