One of the major problems for vegetable farming identified by the project team through a baseline survey was a scarcity of water. There is no provision of government drinking water supply in the project areas. They solely depend on the groundwater, river water, and tankers. In the case of irrigation, most of the farmers of the project area use river water but the quality of river water is deteriorating. Apart from using the polluted water for irrigation, the smallholder farmers also used for washing the vegetables before selling in the nearby markets.
After observing such a situation and considering the needs of the farmers, we proposed for the construction of two boring wells around the vicinity of farms of beneficiary farmers, especially for irrigation purposes. This is the additional activity of the project based on the need of the smallholder farmers.
