Hydrological Model and Flood Hazard Maps validation workshops at the local level

The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) and Environment and Engineering Research Center Pvt. Ltd (EERC), organized hydrological model and flood hazard map validation workshops in Marin Rural Municipality on 22 January 2026 and Gadhimai Municipality on 25 January 2026, as part of the BAGAR project. The hydrological model presented during the workshops was prepared by SEN with technical support from EERC.

The workshops engaged members of the Municipal-level EbA forums including the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Ward Chairs, and Officers from Agriculture and Planning. The workshop provided a platform to review and validate modeled flood scenarios and hazard maps through local knowledge. A key part of the workshop was capacity building for the ward-level EbA forums across 11 wards (5 from Gadhimai Municipality, Rautahat and 6 from Marin Rural Municipality, Sindhuli).

Participants were oriented on hydrological modeling concepts, flood hazard patterns, and the importance of EbA approaches to reduce existing flood risks. Although participants already have practical experience of flood hazard and flow, the workshop enhanced their understanding of how modeled hydrological outputs can support risk assessment for future planning and ecosystem-based flood risk reduction. The flood hazard maps were validated through participants lived experiences and feedback ensuring their contextual relevance and practical applicability are integrated into our models.
