The Small Earth Nepal (SEN), Management Support Service (MASS), City University of New York (CUNY) and Colorado State University (CSU) jointly organized district level stakeholder’s consultative meetings and field visit on demonstration sites for a collaborative research project – “Adaptation for Climate Change by Livestock Smallholders in Gandaki River Basin” at Dhading, Syanjga and Kapilbastu districts from 30 October to 2 November 2012.
A research team comprised of representatives from the CSU, CUNY, SEN and MASS visited three research sites of the Gandaki River Basin and organized stakeholders’ consultative workshops with the representatives from government line agencies, local farmers and other stakeholders. District level consultative workshops were organized at Dhadingbesi of Dhading on 31 October, at Syangjabazaar of Syangja on 1 November and at Taulihawa of Kapilvastu on 2 November 2012.
During the consultative workshops, research team interacted with the representatives of district level government agencies and farmers about the problems faced by the local farmers on livestock farming due to changing climate. The representatives from local government agencies- District Livestock Office (DLO), District Development Committee (DDC), District Agriculture Office (DAO), District Forest Office (DFO) and other government organizations along with the farmers attended the workshop and shared their ideas for the improvement of livestock farming in their districts. The research team also visited the livestock farms of the local farmers and interacted with them about the problems they were facing on livestock farming due to changing climate.
The research project is a joint collaboration of the CUNY, CSU, SEN and MASS, funded by the USAID Livestock-Climate Change Collaborative Research Support Program (LCC-CRSP).
