Landslide Environmental Virtual Observatories (L-EVO), a project funded by UNESCO in the ‘Far Western Region’ of Nepal, has a major focus on generating climate data and using them locally for minimizing disaster risks such as landslides and floods through sensitization of students and local stakeholders. The project has been initiated from May 2022 for a year and is implemented by The Small Earth Nepal (SEN).
Mr. Tribikram Basnet (Research Intern, SEN) and the two field assistants: Mr. Basanta Pratap Singh and Mr. Mohan Raj Jaisi respectively from Bajhang and Bajura made monitoring visits to the existing hydrological and meteorological stations (7 to 14 June 2022). This focused on monitoring the hydro-met stations, data collection, and maintenance of rain gauges, weather stations, and water level sensors. Mr. Basnet provided basic training on the operation, maintenance, and cleaning of the monitoring stations to the field assistants and caretakers.
Additionally, separate meetings were conducted with Mr. Ramesh Bista, Chief Administration Officer of Bitthadchir Rural Municipality, Bajhang, and Mr. Khagendra Rawat, Ward Chair of Khaptad Chhedadaha Rural Municipality-07, Bajura where the team informed about the project and requested their support and cooperation.
