As part of “Building Agroforestry-based Adaptation plans for Resilient floodplains (BAGAR) project”, team from The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) together with Nepal Environmental Research Institute (NERI) and Heifer International are conducting field work in Marin Rural Municipality, Sindhuli district and Gadhimai Municipality, Rautahat district (17-27 November 2025). The project is supported by Global EbA Fund and led by Heifer International Nepal aimed at building resilient floodplains and communities through agroforestry-based adaptation.
SEN, as a local technical partner, is responsible for hydrological modelling and land use planning for the project site. This visit focused on land use plan development, together with the consultant team NERI, and conducted field assessments and meetings with local stakeholders in gathering data and information. The land use plans will serve as a guiding document for the local governments to better plan and manage their land resources, including floodplains.
The capacity building trainings are provided to the municipal and ward level EbA forums to build and enhance their understanding on different land-use patterns, floodplain dynamics and the potential of converting potential floodplains into productive and climate resilient landscapes. Initial field level data collection through FGDs and KIIs are being conducted to understand local knowledge and community preferences around land restoration and agroforestry. Restoring floodplains, the project seeks to benefit the marginalized communities who are facing adverse challenges due to the increasing floods.
