Blog Writing Workshop: Strengthening research communication

The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) organized an in-house workshop on blog writing on 22 August 2025 as part of the institutional strengthening of all the project partners under IHE-Delft funded CLASSIK (Promoting CLimAte ReSilient and Socially Inclusive Water Management in the Lower Karnali Watershed Region, Nepal) project. The workshop was conducted in a hybrid format, with a total of 16 participants among whom 11 attended in-person and 5 participants joined online. The participants from SEN along with all the partner organizations – Karnali Integrated Rural Development and Research Centre (KIRDARC), Tribhuvan University (TU) and Tharu Women Upliftment Centre (TWUC) were present.

The Project Lead Ms. Suchita Shrestha highlighted the objective of the workshop to help strengthen communication skills, develop writing techniques and enhance the professional visibility of early career researchers. Mr. Bhawani S. Dongol, Executive Director of SEN, welcomed all the participants and encouraged them to utilize the opportunity to hone their skills and contribute to the respective research projects they are involved in.

The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Gyanu Maskey and Dr. Anushiya Shrestha, experienced academic researchers from the South Asia Institute of Advanced Studies (SIAS), who guided the participants through the fundamentals of blog writing with a focus on research-based blogs for effectively communicating their research findings.

The workshop covered key aspects of blog writing such as understanding the purpose and impact of research blogs, structuring contents for clarity and engagement, identifying content and storytelling and finally ethical considerations in writing and strategies for submitting blogs for publication. The participants also explored different impactful blogs and engaged in brainstorming ideas for their own blog. The workshop emphasized the role of blogs in enhancing visibility and making academic research findings reach wider audiences.

The second session of this workshop is scheduled to take place in September, where the focus will be on reviewing, refining, and finalizing the draft blogs prepared by the participants through collaborative peer review. Selected blogs will be reviewed by the resource persons and published on relevant platforms.
