The project team visited the project site on April 5-8, 2019, for the construction of deep boring. The field officer coordinated the field visit. The following activities were conducted during the field visit:
Agreement with Landowner:
An appropriate site for the construction of deep boring was identified through the consent of the locals, the local governing body, and the relevant stakeholders during the field visit. As the land was free of cost and the owner was willing to offer it for the construction of deep boring, we selected the site with an area of 1033 m2(3 Katha and 1 Dhur)2
Drilling of Deep Boring:
The construction of deep boring was initiated with a special event under the chairmanship of Mr. Lok Nath Neupane, Chairman of WUC in which the Chairman of Ward No. 2 Mr. Bhesh Raj Sharma (Khanal) was the Chief Guest. The members of the WUCs including the community members were present at the inauguration ceremony.
Deep boring was constructed using a heavy machine. The boring machine dug deep in the ground up to 122 m (~ 400 ft)3 to find the aquifer for a reliable source of water year-round for drip irrigation. However, the aquifer at that depth gave too limited discharge of water. Excavating further deeper was another option, but it was work beyond the capacity of the machine. New machines could incur additional costs. This caused a delay in the project’s progress. Therefore, an additional source of funds was needed for the construction of boring for deeper depth. SEN explored different options to find additional support for the project. In this process, the situation was briefed to the member of parliament of the Kapilvastu-03 constituency, Mr Brijesh Kumar Gupta seeking the possibility of financial support. He said that the budget under his domain was already distributed and allocated. This difficult situation was also shared with the Chairperson of Ward No. 2, Mr. Bheshraj Sharma (Khanal). He also coordinated additional funds through the budget allocation from the local government for the fiscal year i.e., 2076/77. Unfortunately, the additional funds could not be gathered in the new fiscal year.
